Passenger-compartment protection unit 0 986 335 003 (Addition to Bosch Car Alarms I, II and 20)

Installation Instructions

Operation

The unit is set with the alarm switch of the car alarm. The alarm is triggered:

An ultrasonic field is built up in the passenger compartment by a three-dimensional ultrasonic movement detector. If there are changes in this field, e.g. as a result of movements in the passenger compartment or pressure waves resulting if a window is smashed, the alarm is triggered. The sensitivity of the unit can be set at the evaluation electronics unit. The alarm is re-triggered by each change in the ultrasonic field. Current consumption with alarm system set approx. 15 mA.

Scope of delivery

Ultrasonic sensor 0 986 335 001 with mounting bracket Evaluation electronics unit 0 986 335 002 with 2 multiple plugs Connectors and fasteners, as well as leads in different colors.

Special accessories (to be ordered separately):

Relay 0 332 014 150. Only for circuit as in Fig. 7, i.e. when door contacts switch positive (+).

Tools

Screwdriver, combination pliers, power drill, 3.2 and 5 mm 0 bits. Special crimping tool (for cable connectors).

Installation

1. Evaluation electronics unit. Fit in an inconspicuous place, protected from heat and water, inaccessible both from outside and from passenger compartment, with terminals pointing downwards.

2. Ultrasonic sensor. Fit as shown in Fig. 3 on interior mirror or, if not possible, on the parcel shelf.

3. Fitting the ultrasonic sensor on the interior mirror.

Remove the interior mirror 1 from its mounting. Screw off mounting 2 and then screw on again together with mounting bracket 3. Fit interior mirror. Attach ultrasonic sensor 4 to mounting bracket.

4. Using the adjusting screw, adjust the ultrasonic sensor (vertical adjustment only) so that the sensor can radiate freely in all directions and the passenger compartment is therefore well covered by the ultrasonic field. Lay the wires of the ultrasonic sensor to the evaluation electronics unit and connect as shown in Fig 6, 7, 8 or 9

5. Fitting the ultrasonic sensor on the parcel shelf.

Fit on the parcel shelf only if it is not possible to mount the ultrasonic sensor on the interior mirror. Drill a mounting hole (3.2 mm0) on the parcel shelf for the sensor mounting bracket.

Caution: Pay attention to head restraints (if fitted) so that the radiation of the sensor is not too greatly impaired. Screw down mounting bracket with self-tapping screw. Drill second hole (5 mm 0) for cable lead-through. Mount sensor on mounting bracket

Using the adjusting screw, adjust the ultrasonic sensor (vertical adjustment only) so that the sensor can radiate freely in all directions and the passenger compartment is therefore well covered by the ultrasonic field.

Lay the wires of the ultrasonic sensor to the evaluation electronics unit and connect as shown in Fig. 6, 7, 8 or 9.

Electrical connection

Disconnect the battery.

Shorten the ends of the sensor leads to the necessary length and crimp on blade receptacles. Insert the blade receptacles into the small multiple plug supplied, as shown in Fig. 6, 7, 8 or 9. Connect the red lead to terminal 1 of the evaluations electronics, the blue lead to terminal 2 and the green lead to terminal 3. Insert the leads from the power supply, door contacts and from the already installed car alarm system into the large multiple plug, as shown in Fig. 6, 7, 8 or 9. Circuit according to Fig. 6, 7,8 or9 must be selected in accordance with the installed car alarm system and the polarity of the door contact switches.

Plug multiple plugs into evaluation electronics unit.

Connect the battery. Check the system.

Close the vehicle doors and lids. Switch on the alarm system at the alarm switch (note delay of 60 seconds with car alarm I). By means of suitable tests (movement in the passenger compartment) cause the triggering of the alarm.

The alarm signal lasts approx. 30 seconds in each case and can only be switched off sooner at the alarm switch.

Adjust the sensitivity.

The evaluation electronics unit is normally supplied adjusted to average sensitivity. Caution: Turning the adjusting screw in a clockwise direction increases the sensitivity of the system and vice versa.
